Inside the Muséum de Bordeaux on place Bardineau, cats take over the galleries for an exhibition that is as playful as it is instructive. “Miaou!” traces the history of the cat from 17 June 2026 to 3 January 2027, through taxidermy specimens, objects and interactive displays.
In the heart of the Jardin Public, the Muséum de Bordeaux dedicates its new exhibition to the world’s most popular animal: the cat. From 17 June 2026 to 3 January 2027, “Miaou!” invites visitors of all ages to explore the mysteries of the domestic feline, between science, culture, and imagination.

Across 130 m², this participatory exhibition explores the many facets of cats: their extraordinary sensory abilities, often misunderstood behaviours, evolution from early felines to today’s domestic cat, and their place in literature, cinema, and folklore through the centuries.
What sets this project apart: around fifteen Bordeaux residents and cat enthusiasts helped design it, a first for the Muséum. On opening day, a dedicated “Mini-Miaou!” activity is offered for younger visitors starting at 10:30am.
