The Cité du Vin located in the Bacalan district, is the place to be in Bordeaux. It is a museum that offers an immersive and interactive experience on the theme of wine and oenology. Inaugurated in 2016, it is a striking symbol of the Bordeaux region, strong of its wine and winemaking heritage.
The Cité du Vin offers a unique sensory immersion in the world of wine, symbol of Bordeaux, the region, but also of France in the world. A true architectural masterpiece, the Cité du Vin building is distinguished by its shape of an inverted carafe. The building is loaded with symbols very evocative of the world of the vine and wine: vine stock, movement of wine in a glass.
In total, 13,350 m² are exclusively dedicated to the discovery of oenology. The monument, culminating at 55 meters in the sky, offers a global vision on the city of Gironde. The construction was completed in 2016 and the inauguration took place on June 1st of the same year.
Inside the building, visitors can discover permanent and temporary exhibitions, multimedia installations, wine tastings and interactive workshops on different aspects of wine. The museum also offers a unique sensory tour that allows visitors to discover the smells and flavors of wine, as well as a panoramic view of the city of Bordeaux from the belvedere located at the top of the building. You will be able to admire the Pey-Berland Tower, the Grand Théâtre and the banks of the Garonne River, not to mention the vineyards that surround the city of Bordeaux.
