The MÉCA is the the house of creative economy and culture of the “Nouvelle-Aquitaine” region.
This asymmetrical arched building is both a regional hub for creative players and a space for artistic discovery and interaction for the general public. Located at the other end of the crescent formed by the Garonne as it passes through Bordeaux, it represents the ideal complement to the Cité du Vin.
To kick off the year 2024, marked by the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region invites you to discover the exceptional story of a woman who lived through the 20th century: Madeleine Riffaud. Committed to fighting the horrors of the Nazis as a teenager, she later became a journalist, poet and war reporter, traveling the world to bear witness to conflicts.
Madeleine’s captivating story, brought to life in a comic strip by scriptwriter Jean-David Morvan (winner of the Prix René Goscinny for best screenplay in 2022) and talented illustrator Dominique Bertail, is at the heart of this exhibition. An essential part of the exhibition is devoted to the behind-the-scenes creation of the comic strip dedicated to him, giving visitors the opportunity to discover how it was conceived.
The last room of the exhibition will pay tribute to five women members of the French Resistance from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Whether they took part in the armed struggle or went underground in their traditional roles within society, they will be honored.
