With its two botanical gardens, the city of Bordeaux has its own little havens of peace that invite you to relax while observing the fascinating world of plants. Their luxuriant greenery and their biodiversity make these gardens, places where we like to reconnect with nature. With each season the gardens reveal their different forms and colours.
Bordeaux is privileged due to these two beautiful natural spaces. It has succeeded in reintroducing nature in an urban setting by creating a new park while maintaining its authentic garden.
This historic garden of the city of Bordeaux was created in 1629. Over the years and centuries, its location was moved to different districts of the city to finally get settled on the Champ de Mars, on the left bank of Bordeaux. A heritage park, it consists of several flowerbeds to show the classification of species, a historic aquatic basin, an arboretum as well as an area dedicated to the growth of seedlings and cuttings.
Simply cross the Garonne river to discover the botanical gardens of La Bastide. An attraction of the right bank, these gardens are a beautiful place where it is enjoyable to walk around. There are 10 areas with different characteristics and functions that can be explored, such as an aquatic pool, a vertical garden, an abundant orchard, a tropical greenhouse, an arboretum and many more.
Whether it is time for a break or a picnic, there are many opportunities to visit the gardens and reconnect with nature right in the heart of the city. You can simply rest on one of the many park benches or walk along the paths. Its lush vegetation feels like an oasis from which you can see the beginnings of the urban landscape.
For all lovers of nature, the botanical gardens of Bordeaux are a playground where you can go to discover new species of plants. Sometimes aquatic, sometimes exotic or simply beautiful, the diversity of cultivated species is spectacular. The botanists available on site will gladly share with you the exciting secrets of the vegetation. Fun and educational workshops are also scheduled to raise public awareness of the protection of the environment and the preservation of natural environments.
