Little known to the general public today, Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) nevertheless marked her era.
On the occasion of the bicentenary of Rosa Bonheur’s birth in Bordeaux, the Musée des Beaux-Arts honors her work in the gallery and the north wing of the museum.
Rosa Bonheur placed the world of animals at the heart of her work by committing herself to the recognition of their singularity. Thanks to her technical skills, she was able to render both their anatomy and their psychology in a very realistic way. This exhibition allows us to (re)discover the strength and richness of her internationally recognized art.
Rosa Bonheur also embodies the emancipation of women through her life as a free woman.
The exhibition brings together nearly 200 works in all genres, from remarks collections from around the world.
Exhibition from May 18 to September 18, 2022.
