“La déferlante surf” :
the new exhibition at the musée d’Aquitaine

Dive into “surf culture” and discover the global phenomenon that swept through Europe via Aquitaine at the end of the 1950s. Aside from the sport itself, surfing is a symbol of freedom, originating from a collective imagination and a fantasy associated with nature, beauty and youth.

The exhibition showcases more than 500 pieces from public and private collections, in particular Gérard Decoster’s largest collection. Archive documents, projections and soundscapes complete this unique exhibition.

You can also find works by contemporary artists just a stone’s throw away from the tiki bar and beach huts. Discover Cosmic Tubes boards, sculpture by Gilles Barbier, Olivier Millagou installations, and Stephan Vanfleteren’s Surf Tribe photographs.

The exhibition runs as part of “Liberté!” (“Freedom!”), the season of culture presented by the city of Bordeaux, from 20 June to 20 August.
